This is a rare opportunity to purchase an original gem carving by world-renowned master gem carver, Thomas R. McPhee. The provenance on this piece: Originally carved in 1990? from a quartz crystal originating in the famous McEarl Pocket, Coleman Mine, Jessieville, Garland County Arkansas. In 1991 an 1992, Tom and I were involved in selling a major collection of his work to the Susan Clark Gallery. Susan and her husband, George Clark built the most beautiful gallery in Vancouver dedicated to fine gemstones, jewlelery and gem carvings. This piece was part of that collection. A few years ago, I had the opportunity to re-purchase the piece from Susan, who had it on consignment at the fabulous Pacific Mineral Museum in Vancouver. The raven's beak had a small chip near the tip so I took it back to Tom who repaired it to perfection.
This piece is very rare in the it contains two examples of Tom's carving techniques on one crystal. The raven's head is a full sculptural rendering in the round. On the base is a Saytr's head carved in profile as an intaglio. As such it is more valuable.
